Former Citizen reporter to attempt mountain climb

Sue Archer, a former reporter at the Bishops Stortford Citizen, is hoping to raise over £1000 for charity by climbing Western Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc.

Sue, along with her husband Tony, aims to climb the mountain in memory of her parents who both died from cancer in the last year.

The money raised will go to the Isabel Hospice in Welwyn Garden City where nurses offered support and care to the whole family during her parents’ illnesses.

Sue has recently attempted the climb but poor weather conditions prevented her from making it to the peak. She hopes a second attempt will be possible within the next few weeks.

She said: “Words cannot express how grateful we are for the support of the Macmillan nurses and Marie Curie nurses at the Hospice, who worked alongside the district nurses to help us care for my parents at home.

“It was the wish of both my parents to be at home during their illnesses and without them this would not have been possible.”

Sue worked for the Bishops Stortford Citizen until April this year and now works for a PR company in a journalistic capacity.
