Evening Mail prints new community paper

The first of a new series of community newspapers for Barrow has rolled off the North West Evening Mail’s presses.

Island Eye is full of news, views and information for people on Barrow Island and will be distributed free to 1,600 homes.

Newspapers for the town’s other regeneration areas – Risedale, Ormsgill, Hindpool and Central – will follow in the new year.

  • Community Newspaper editorial facilitator Bill Beckett and Evening Mail Editor Steve Brauner (right and centre) celebrate the launch of Island Eye with members of the Barrow Community Regeneration Company and Burlinton House Press Office.
  • Teams of volunteers from the local community will help to produce the titles, each of which will come out four times a year.

They will be published by Furness Newspapers Limited, parent company of the Evening Mail, on behalf of Barrow Community Regeneration Company.

As well as local news and opinion, the newspapers will help people get involved in the many regeneration initiatives which are reshaping the town.
