Editor thrown to the sharks

The editor of a weekly newspaper series in deepest Somerset is about to be thrown to the sharks.

It’s not because he’s upset the juniors – he’s volunteered for the job to raise money for a local charity.

David Summers, who edits the Somerset Standard and Guardian Series, papers which cover an area south of Bristol and Bath, is planning to jump into an aquarium filled with sharks.

The money he raises will go to Victoria Hospital in Frome and the North East Somerset Trust for Children.

David said: “I read about the Blue Planet Aquarium allowing people to dive with sharks and thought it would be a great way to raise money.

“We’ve been supporting the two charities for the past 18 months and I have decided it was time to do something personally.

“For obvious reasons I am trying to collect the sponsor money before I go in rather than after – although one person has sponsored me for every limb I bring back.”
