Echo cartoonist celebrates 40 years in the news

South Wales Echo cartoonist Gren is celebrating his 40-year career by releasing a limited edition collection of his work.

The 72-year-old, who draws a daily cartoon for the Echo, has chosen 40 of his original watercolour cartoons for the collection which will be launched at a special event at the Celtic Manor Hotel on November 25.

Each print will be numbered and personally signed by Gren himself and supplied with its own certificate of authenticity.

Born Grenfell Jones, he draws a topical cartoon for the Echo every day from his Llandaff home after retiring from the newspaper’s newsroom six years ago.

He said: “I get more enthusiastic as the years go on. I’m in my room for 7.30am and I watch the morning news and look through several newspapers.

“I usually have the cartoon ready by midday but it can be a bit of a panic sometimes.”

Gren was awarded an MBE for his contribution of cartoons to the British public and has been named Provincial Cartoonist of the Year four times.
