Doors hold the key to a fortune

A combination of female intuition – and a helpful local paper – could make a Bradford man several thousand pounds richer.

Mohammed Mangoo was replacing wood-panelled doors at his home when he discovered ornate pictures of cherubs painted on them behind chipboard coverings.

He was about to throw them away when his daughters pleaded with him to keep the designs. Then the women asked the Bradford Telegraph & Argus to run a story appealing for information on the designs, which were signed W F Coleman.

An art expert has responded to the appeal and believes the paintings could be the work of Victorian artist William Stephen Coleman – and worth thousands.

The doors are now in safe storage awaiting official valuation.
