Designer Zandra honoured as the Pride of Medway

International fashion designer Zandra Rhodes has been awarded a lifetime achievement trophy at a Pride in Medway award ceremony.

The year-long awards campaign was run by the Kent Messenger Group daily newspaper, Medway Today.

Readers were invited to nominate people in four categories – achievement, business, courage and community involvement.

Zandra grew up in Medway and attended art college there before going on to gain a world-wide reputation as a clothes and textiles designer.

She is one of 24 people to receive one of the Pride in Medway awards. The event has been organised by KM Medway Today and Medway Council, with sponsorship from British Gas and BT, to mark the millennium.

Award winners include a boy who saved his mother from burning to death, a school for autistic children and Medway’s special baby care unit.

Statuettes designed by Sam Holland, the sculptor who designed the Medway Millennium Sculpture, will be presented to the overall winners.
