Deputy editor appointed

The new deputy editor of the Leicester Mercury will be Kay Drummond, who is currently deputy editor of the Press and Journal in Aberdeen.

Kay, (32), joined the P&J as a trainee in 1988 and held positions on the sports and news desks before becoming assistant editor and then, in 2000, deputy.

She also spent time in the circulation department of the morning paper, running the department for nine months.

She led last year’s re-launch of the newspaper, which, like the Mercury, is part of the Northcliffe group.

Mercury editor Nick Carter said: “Her experience in the different aspects of editorial, as well as her newspaper sales expertise, will prove invaluable to us in Leicester as we work to build on the successes of the past 12 months.”

Kay will join the team in Leicester in the first quarter of 2003.
