Death of Oxford-based reporter

Former Oxford Mail and Times reporter Peter Sturges has died, aged 73.

He was the paper’s industrial correspondent and also reported widely on sport.

Mr Sturges, who lived in Cumnor, joined the company in 1941 as a cub reporter and stayed for more than fifty years before retiring in 1992.

During his career, he reported on many aspects of business and commerce in Oxfordshire, including the years of industrial strife at the Cowley car factories.

As a sports reporter, he followed Oxford City football team around the country for many years and was also the paper’s speedway correspondent.

He leaves a widow, Betty, daughters Joanna and Judy and five grandchildren.
