Death of long-serving editor

Former Richmond and Twickenham Times series editor Reginald Ward has died, aged 90.

The newspaper series has only had eight editors in its 130 year history. Reginald had the job between 1953 and 1976.

He began work as a journalist after the Second World War, and quickly worked his way up from reporter to editor.

His reign at the newspaper came during a time of change and modernisation for the industry, including the drop in the tradition of filling the front page of the paper with advertisements.

He was also well-known for his passion for newspapers and his incisive, sometimes tongue in cheek, leader articles.

His funeral was due to be held today.
