Death of former Star journalist

Former Sheffield Star journalist Julia Sharp has died after a two-year battle with breast cancer.

Originally from Newcastle, Julia started her career on the Doncaster Evening Post after graduating in 1978 with an English Literature degree.

In 1981 she moved to the Sheffield Star where she worked for two years before leaving to work as a freelance for the Daily Mail.

Former colleague Stephen McClarence said: “Julia was a loyal friend and a really vibrant person.

“It is tragic and so unfair that someone so full of life as she was should die like this.”

Julia had spent the last ten years in television, initially working for regional politics programme North Westminster, and then BBC North West.
