Date fixed for tabloid switch

The Evening Press at York has announced the date of its conversion to a new compact format as Monday, September 6.

A compact newspaper is what the readers have been asking for since the Evening Press first experimented successfully with a tabloid Saturday edition in 1997.

Editor Kevin Booth said the new version would be more colourful and have a bright, new design.

And he pledged it would retain the quality and editorial integrity people had come to expect.

He said: “With just 14 days to go, we are all extremely excited about the launch of the new compact newspaper.

“Market research has shown it is undoubtedly what readers and advertisers want. In restyling the Evening Press we’ve adopted the principle of ‘new shape, old values’.

“We’re convinced people will find it a vibrant, easy-to-read package containing the unrivalled coverage they have come to expect.”

  • The paper has launched a competition for a reader to set the presses rolling on the first day of the new compact newspaper.
