Conference coverage for trainees

Four trainee reporters from the Newsquest newspaper group were today providing live coverage on the Internet of their annual editors’ conference in Bradford.

The event opened last night (Wednesday June 21). Today it was due to continue with a speech from Opposition Leader William Hague on Freedom of Information. Other speeches on the subject were due to be given by Bob Satchwell, Director of the Society of Editors, Elizabeth France, Data Protection Commissioner and prospective Information Commissioner, and Brian Gallagher, from USA Today.

Discussions this afternoon were set to focus on electronic publishing and training issues.

The team of four reporters – to be led by the Northern Echo’s new media editor Sarah Andrews – are Ian Midgley and Suzy Poole from the Bradford Telegraph & Argus, Katie Relton from the Northern Echo and Dan Rutsetin from the York Evening Press.
