Childhood pals reunited

Childhood pals Bob Thompson and John Bradley have been reunited after more than 35 years – thanks to the Nottingham Evening Post Together 2000 campaign.

Within hours of Bob, 70, appealing through the newspaper for word of his old pal, John, 71, was on the telephone to him.

The newspaper had succeeded after Bob spent four fruitless months searching on the Internet.

The pair became friends when they were evacuated from London to Nottingham in 1940. Bob was best man at John’s first wedding, but they drifted apart after National Service. Bob moved around the country with his work and John ran a pub in Dorset.

John is now a Bingham Town Councillor and Bob lives in Hemel Hempstead.

Bob was prompted to search for his old pal when he heard of plans for a reunion of the youth fellowship group to which they both used to belong.
