Charities offered free help to get their stories in the press

Free training on publicity and PR is on offer for charities and voluntary groups across the north west.

Leading journalists will join a seminar in Liverpool on December 1 to explain what makes a news story, how to write a press release and what pictures to include.

They will also cover ways to plan and execute a successful PR campaign.

The seminar will also include information about Community Newswire, a service funded by the Home Office and run by the Press Association, where such groups can post news online and rely on it getting into newsrooms for publication.

Community Newswire manager Dominic O’Reilly said the service had sent out more than 10,000 stories since its launch in June last year.

He added: “The stories have appeared in every national newspaper and broadcaster and throughout the regional media so I would urge charities in the north west to come and learn about this essential and easy-to-use service.”

The seminar is open to any non-profit organisation and more details can be obtained from Dominic on 020 7874 7606.
