Cash lure for murder information

A £5,000 reward is being offered in the hunt for the killer of Leeds pensioner Edna Slater.

The Yorkshire Evening Post put up the cash in a bid to bring in information that might lead to the killer’s arrest and conviction.

Edna’s body was found in the living room of her one-bedroomed flat in November.

The flat had been searched and Edna’s pension money – about £70 – and some costume jewellery had been stolen.

Detective Superintendent Eddie Hemsley, who is leading the hunt, said: “We are hoping that the offer of money by the Yorkshire Evening Post will encourage more people to come froward.

“Someone must know the identity of the murderer. They would have been heavily bloodstained as a result of the attack.”

The reward offer was also welcomed by Edna’s brother, Dennis Coward.

He said: “No-one deserves to die like Edna – it’s shocking and ridiculous for such a meagre amount of money.”

  • Five thousand posters to help with the hunt are also being distributed around the Bramley area where Edna lived.
