Vulcan flight plan on course

Readers of the Lincolnshire Echo have donated £25,000 towards a campaign to return the world’s last flying Vulcan bomber to the skies.

The newspaper is leading efforts to raise £1.5m to restore the historic delta wing plane, which currently rests in a hangar in Leicestershire.

The 40-year-old Vulcan flew its last flight above Lincolnshire in 1993.

But now the Vulcan Operating Company wants to bring the aircraft back to life ready for displays in 2002.

So far, £600,000 has been pledged, most of which has come from the US Government.

And following the launch of the Echo’s Keep the Vulcan Flying appeal, readers have responded by donating a further £25,000 towards the project.

Vulcan pilot David Haller said: “It’s a bit of English heritage that if we throw away because of a lack of funds, it’s another chunk of our history gone.”
