A Skate Safe appeal run by the Chard & Ilminster News has closed after raising £2,114 towards Chard’s official skateboard and BMX park.

Launched by the News three months ago, the campaign touched the lives of many people in the area.

News readers of all ages rallied to the cause, ensuring that the paper not only reached but exceeded its £2,000 target in double-quick time.

South Somerset District Council, working in partnership with members of Chard Extreme Sports Society, has already secured £28,000 towards the project.

Chief reporter Belinda Bennett said: “We are delighted with the effort – we’d like to thank everyone for their support.”
