Royal approval for Record's campaign

The Daily Record’s Anti-Drugs Campaign is to get the royal seal of approval at a presentation in Glasgow.

Prince William was due to hand over the fund’s first cheque to Glasgow-based theatre group Fablevision today.

The theatre group, which tours schools spreading the anti-drugs message, will be given the cheque at the Lighthouse, the Scottish headquarters of the Prince’s Trust.

William, who starts a degree in Fine Arts at St Andrew’s University next month, will be accompanied by Prince Charles, the Trust’s founder, at the presentation.

So far the Daily Record’s campaign has raised more than £200,000 to fund community projects in areas ravaged by drugs.

And for every pound the newspaper’s campaign manages to raise the Scottish Executive will match it.

Fablevison haa been touring schools performing a series of plays to nine to 14-year-olds since 1994.

Daily Record Editor Peter Cox said: “Fablevision travel through Scotland spreading its message and reaching many communities each year.

“Because of that and the fact it is reaching out to young people, I feel it is the ideal choice to receive the first from our fund.”

Fablevision education officer, Dave Mason, said: “We are delighted to be the first group to receive a grant from the Daily Record.

“We will use it to spread our message on drugs even further afield.”
