Progress for tourist bus bid

The Stratford Standard’s successful campaign against tourist buses clogging the streets is in full-swing after protesters met council leaders to decide which streets should become no-go areas for the coaches.

The campaign, to limit the number of tour buses, has already secured its first victory – in advance of the latest show-down.

City Sightseeing, which arrived in the town last month, has agreed to cut two buses from its hourly timetable in response to the public outcry.

Then yesterday, protest leaders got around the negotiating table with councillors and transport chiefs to look at imposing restrictions on coach firms.

The council has agreed to apply for traffic regulation orders in a new bid to resolve the situation after two firms at the centre of the row failed to come up with their own solutions.

  • City Sightseeing enjoyed some welcome relief when it scooped a top industry award. Its bright bus beat competition from 70 others across the country to land first place in the Best 1980s Double Decker category.
