The Bath Chronicle has launched a campaign to ensure that the city’s rugby club can remain at its spiritual home.
The Keep Rugby At The Rec campaign wants to make sure that a sporting success story which has brought prestige to the city can stay in its traditional and much-loved ground.
A review is under way to decide if Bath Rugby has the sort of future it wants at “The Rec”.
The Chronicle is determined to ensure that it does – and that its hopes of creating an enhanced arena on part of the Recreation Ground are realised.
The club and its supporters are already organising a drive to persuade a consultant given the job of making recommendations on the future of the green lung to back its point of view.
The Chronicle will be printing a petition, and has drawn up posters and car stickers for fans, as well as a special section on its www.thisisbath.co.uk website.
It was also be backing activities to publicise the campaign at Saturday’s home game with Worcester.
Editor Sam Holliday said: “If Bath Rugby were to leave the Rec or our city, it would be a tragedy. We as a community must act now.”
