Musicians rally to help farms

A plea for cash help to aid Cumbrian farmers caught up in the devastating foot and mouth crisis has been answered by rock band Ocean Colour Scene.

Their donation – of £2,000 – is the latest response to the Carlisle News & Star/Cumberland News appeal.

Their Farmers Fund raised £5,000 on the day it was launched.

Readers, local traders and business and farming groups have also pledged cash.

Ocean Colour Scene manager Chris Craddock said he had been moved by the media coverage of Cumbria’s plight.

He said: “Cumbria is taking a pounding from foot and mouth and it doesn’t seem to be stopping.

“This is heartfelt because we don’t make donations very often.”
