Fundraising flurry for bus boost

Just three months after launching its minibus campaign, the Leicester Mercury has raised the target amount.

The paper’s appeal aimed to raise £40,000 for Rainbows Childrens Hospice to buy a new mini-bus with double the wheelchair space of the existing bus.

And after a flurry of fundraising activity by generous readers, the money has been collected.

The new minibus will arrive in the next few weeks, and charity organisers are delighted.

Appeal co-ordinator Jo Plant said: “We are over the moon and very grateful to so many people.”

“It means that local children can benefit sooner rather than later from much-looked-forward-to trips out.”

Even though the minibus target has been reached, the charity still needs to raise £1.2m to fund its work each year.
