Broadcast brings in £5,000

Dunmow Broadcast readers have donated £5,000 in just four weeks to an appeal to help a sick child.

Seven-year-old Christopher Geraghty, who was born with brain damage, will now be able to swim with dolphins in Florida.

Assistant editor of the Dunmow Broadcast, Chris Lennon said: “The response to the appeal has been staggering. It is amazing how generous people have been to help a cause such as this.”

Parents Jackie and John were told Chistopher would not live past the age of five due to his brain damage but he has proved them all wrong.

Although he is nearly blind and severely handicapped, Christopher attends the Edith Borthwick Special School in Braintree.

He goes swimming every week at the Dunmow Sports Centre and it was during one of these sessions that his parents came up with the idea of taking him to Florida.

The family will now travel to Island Dolphin Care in Key Largo, Florida where special needs children have the opportunity to swim with dolphins and experience their therapeutic power.
