Arrested and charged thanks to Evening Post

A new campaign by the Yorkshire Evening Post and Crimestoppers to catch criminals has brought several important breakthroughs.

Since the beginning of this year, the paper’s Crime Watch appeals to trace people sought by police have led to the arrest and charge of 13 suspects.

Four people have also surrendered to police after seeing their photographs in the paper as part of appeals.

The Yorkshire paper runs regular appeals for people wanted in connection with crimes in its Weekly Crime File, and in April launched a daily Crime Watch appeal with Crimestoppers.

Sgt Ian Froggett, co-ordinator of Yorkshire and Humberside Crimestoppers unit said: “Since the start of the year, we have had tremendous success from the appeals in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We at Crimestoppers are very grateful for the appeals and the results we have achieved, bearing in mind that many of these crimes might otherwise have remained undetected.”
