For many though, struggling in the here and now it is a distant promise. For too many God is a stranger. They see little evidence of Him on the streets and even less in their newspapers or on television. Mass communications give us a running commentary on humanity’s failings.

Great ‘Christian’ nations betray God with their arrogance and consumption while neighbouring countries struggle in poverty.

And we can do it now in our corner of South Devon by just stretching out a hand of friendship and love to those who know neither.

Like St Peter we can witness to the power of the resurrection by our actions, by our body language – not just in a homeless hostel, but in our street, workplace or college.

And in so doing we will find our own desperate longing for the companionship of the Holy Spirit, to inspire and uplift us, fulfilled.
