Bungling burglars hit the headlines… but only once

Bungling burglars hit the headlines of the Mid Devon Star when hapless crooks tried to break into the newspaper offices.

A HoldTheFrontPage contact told us the break-in was a success, and the Star’s picture story described them as a “Laurel and Hardy-style” pair who bungled the raid.

The article told how they tried to jemmy an unlocked filing cabinet and got away only with the staff tea money.

But our source, a regular reader of the Mid Devon Star, noticed the writing staff weren’t quite so jocular about the next break-in… the offices were raided again a few days after publication.

This time the raiders were more like Butch and Sundance…

They managed to do the job properly this time, also stealing reporter Wayne Bishop’s camera.

And in the Star the following Friday… no follow-up on the second raid. Not a word, we’re told.
