Birthday celebrations continue at the Journal

The Salisbury Journal in Wiltshire has published a second souvenir supplement in celebration of its 275th anniversary.

In January the paper published a special edition in which staff told readers of their pride in being Britain’s third oldest weekly newspaper and looked ahead to a year of celebration.

Following on from this, the new 32-page supplement is packed with stories and pictures tracing the history of their newspaper and the area it serves.

The paper’s editorial team has also taken a look back at big moments in history that have made local headlines over the years including memories of the long, dark days of two world wars.

The history of the paper itself is also charted in the supplement, from the days of its founder Benjamin Collins and early printing techniques through to the computer age.

  • The names of some local heroes who have been nominated for the Journal People Awards, launched specially to celebrate its 275th birthday, are also revealed in the supplement.

The paper has been inviting readers and local companies, schools, clubs and other organisations to nominate outstanding men, women and children from the community who they feel deserve public recognition.
