Bid to halt Foxes slide

The Leicester Mercury has issued a rallying call to help keep rapidly sinking Leicester City football club in the Premiership.

It claims the current season is the most important in the club’s 116-year-history.

And the next four months and 17 games are vital if the club are to avoid the drop.

Relegation would not only cost the club millions, but continued efforts to raise the profile of Leicestershire would also be damaged.

Survival is a tall order with the club currently three points adrift at the foot of the Premiership.

But supporters feel a county-wide show of support could help the players pull off a great escape.

One arm of the campaign involves Stay Up City! car stickers, which are being given away free with the Sporting Blue.

The website and newspaper are also giving fans the chance to send in their messages of support for the team and is asking supporters for their suggestions on how to make the campaign more effective.

There’s also a list of reasons to be cheerful, as well as the ultimate in interactive Internet – the chance to squeeze city’s spot (below).

See it to believe it – the amazing campaign weapon can be accessed on the Internet at: thisisleicestershire.

The website is heralding the breakthrough as “a revolutionary Internet Thought Transference program” developed to send a subliminal message of support direct to minds of all the players and the management team.

ThisisLeicestershire says: “If you’re like we are – 100 per cent behind Leicester City and determined to see them stay in the Premiership – then put your finger where your mouth is and press this spot.

“We’re making history with the internet’s first-ever Support Spot – a screen-sensitive link direct to Harry Bassett, Micky Adams and all the players.

“All you have to do is press lightly on this spot and say out loud “Stay Up City!” – the power of the World Wide Web will do the rest.”
