Alarming news is good for pensioners

An evening paper has left scores of old people feeling safer by giving away personal attack alarms.

The Evening Express invited readers to pick up free alarms from its shop in Union Street, Aberdeen. One hundred alarms were on offer – and they were claimed within 45 minutes.

A spokeswoman at the shop said: “There was a crowd of 25-30 people queueing outside the shop before we opened at nine o’clock.”

The pensioners who missed out will have another chance to improve their security because the paper is teaming up once more with the businessman who donated the alarms.
