Arthur Church is to retire as a columnist on the Bucks Free Press 72 years after he joined the paper as a junior reporter.

Mr Church spent two years’ training on the newspaper in High Wycombe before joining the Leicester Mercury.

He returned to the paper in 1933, and edited it from 1956 to 1976.

For the past ten years he has written a column called Church View, but said he has now decided to “quit while I’m ahead”.
