York Vision does the double

York Vision, the student newspaper of the University of York, has been crowned best student newspaper at the NUS National Student Media Awards.

The award follows hot on the heels of the paper’s success at the recent Guardian Student Media Awards where it was also named student newspaper of the year.

Its editor, Rob Harris, also walked away with the gong for best reporter – the same award he picked up at the Guardian awards.

A total of 15 awards were handed out at the event, which was sponsored by the Daily Mirror and held at the newspaper’s headquarters.

Other winners included Jagjeet Singh-Sohal from Brunel University, who won the diversity award and BritSprog, from Broxtowe College, which won the inaugural further education award.

Judges said they were amazed at the quality of the entries.

NUS National Secretary Penny Hollings said: “I extend my congratulations to all this year’s winners and would like to pay special tribute to everyone who made the shortlist.

“We were astounded by the high level of the work submitted. The quality belies the limited resources the students work with and is a testament to their hard work.”
