Vine to host business journalism awards

Broadcaster and journalist Jeremy Vine is to host this year’s npower Northern Business Journalist of the Year Awards.

He will present winners of each of the seven categories, including the new ‘Business Story of the Year’ award, with a trophy and each individual winner with £1,000.

Other categories include:

  • Newspaper of the Year
  • Magazine of the Year
  • Daily Newspaper Journalist of the Year
  • Weekly Newspaper Journalist of the Year
  • Magazine Journalist of the Year
  • Broadcast Journalist of the Year

    The awards recognise both print and broadcast journalists based between the Trent and Scottish borders.

    The presentation event will be held at the Leeds Marriott hotel on November 17.

    Following the awards, Jeremy will give a speech on his views on the world of journalism, including amusing renditions based on his own experiences and achievements.

    Richard Frost, Head of PR for npower and also an awards judge, said: “npower is delighted that a journalist of Jeremy Vine’s calibre has agreed to host the awards. It is fantastic to have the very best of Northern Journalism together for one night to celebrate such excellence.”

    The awards ceremony is free, including a three course dinner, and all journalists who have entered the awards are eligible to attend the ceremony with a colleague.

    The judges this year are Peter Cole, head of journalism at the University of Sheffield, Mike Ward, head of journalism at the University of Central Lancashire, Damien Waters, director of the CBI North West, Ken Symon, business editor at the Sunday Herald and Richard Frost, head of public relations at npower.
