The Somerset County Gazette has received a top national honour in recognition of its charity work.

The paper has been presented with NCH’s Media Award following its ‘Supporting Somerset’s Youth’ campaign, launched to fund six projects across Somerset.

The trophy was presented at NCH’s ‘Challenge to Care Awards 2002′ staged in London’s Shaw Theatre.

It was collected by editor-in-chief, Ken Bird (right), and chief reporter Phil Hill, from ITN newsreaders Mary Nightingale and Nicholas Owen.

The award was shared between the County Gazette and the South Wales Evening Post.
