Top financial writing award for Jane

A journalist at The Journal in Newcastle has won a top industry award for her writing on personal finance.

Jane Hall has been named British Insurance Brokers Association Regional Journalist of the Year for 2002.

The award is in recogntition of Jane’s writing in the paper’s weekly Money section, and is the third time the features editor has won the award in the last four years.

Judges praised Jane for her financial stories, which they said were written in an interesting and informative manner.

They added: “She provided very sound advice accompanied by an appropriate level of technical information that would allow readers to make an informed decision or seek advice.”

Peter Sharples, of the Manchester Evening News, was highly commended in the regional journalist category.

The awards are held annually to reward journalists for helping to further consumer understanding of insurance issues.

In its 23rd year, the event attracted nearly 100 entries. The overall winner received £750, eight category winners – including Jane – collected £500 and runners-up received £100.
