The Scottish Daily Newspaper Society has announced the winners of this year’s Scottish Press Awards.
The winners of the 19 categories were revealed at a ceremony and dinner in Glasgow, with The Herald being named Newspaper of the Year.
A special Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Hugh McIlvanney, who was also this year’s guest speaker.
Gethin Chamberlain, of The Scotsman, was awarded the prize for Journalist of the Year, and Donald Fraser of the Highland News was named Weekly Newspaper Journalist of the Year.
Judging panel chairman Charles Wilson said: “This year’s event recognises 25 years of promoting best practice within the industry.
“The standard as always is extremely high – it’s been a fantastic evening and a great opportunity to reward talent, excellence and professionalism in Scottish journalism.”
The Awards were set up by the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society to encourage and promote standards of journalism and recognise professional talent and skills. They are open to journalists and photographers working for newspapers and magazines published in Scotland and Scottish based journalists and photographers writing exclusively on Scottish affairs for non-Scottish publications.
