Tables turned on publisher Bill Browne

Salisbury Journal publisher Bill Browne had the tables turned on him at the city’s Business Awards.

Having presented cups to three winners on the night, he then picked up a trophy himself.

Bill, who has been at Salisbury Newspapers for a year-and-a-half, was given the Presidents Award at the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce event.

He was praised for his contribution to the business community by Andrew Hodder, President of the Chamber, who said he was particularly impressed with the way Bill had worked behind the scenes to enable the Chamber of Commerce to launch South Wilts Expo, its business-to-business event earlier in the year.

He said: “His efforts in helping us in so many ways, including with the sponsors, deserve recognition.”

Bill, who was formerly editor of the Basingstoke Gazette, said: “To get this reaction so early in my time here at Salisbury is particularly pleasing.

“It’s not just down to me, there has been a lot of effort gone into supporting business from the whole of the team here at Salisbury Newspapers. I’m hoping that it will give us an even stronger footing for the future.”
