Swift motoring to new awards triumph

Sentinel motoring columnist John Swift has won the biggest award in his industry for the second year running.

He was voted the Guild of Motoring Writers Regional Journalist of the Year.

It is the first time anyone has won the accolade twice.

The 39-year-old scooped the title for his writing in both The Sentinel’s Drive supplement and Sentinel Sunday.

He was also awarded The AA Trophy for writing on political, environmental, legal and safety issues in Sentinel Sunday – beating competition from the Daily Mail and a host of specialist motoring magazines.

Editor Sean Dooley said: “John’s expertise, experience and passion for the subject have illuminated his writing for many years.

“We are delighted that John’s work, which is greatly valued by Sentinel readers, has again been recognised at a national level.”

The Sentinel carries one of the biggest motoring supplements of any regional newspaper in the country and John’s column in Sentinel Sunday has moved away from the usual format, in favour of topical comment.
