Student talent to fight it out for industry awards

The contenders for this year’s Guardian Student Media Awards have been revealed.

The competition attracted a record number of entries and journalism hopefuls from across the country will now fight it out in 13 categories in the hope of being named the best of the best.

Among the nominees is the University of York’s York Vision, which has again made the shortlist for Student Newspaper of the Year after winning the title for the past two years.

Winners will be announced on November 15.

Each category carries with it a cash prize for the winner and runner-up, ranging from £250 to £1,000, and some also offer free flights from easyJet and work experience at either the Guardian or Sky News.

Judges will also choose one overall winner who will scoop an extended six-week work placement at the Guardian and a living allowance of £1,000 to spend during that time.
