The nominations for the Newspaper Society’s Weekly Newspaper Awards 2002 have been revealed.
The competition, open to all UK paid-for and free weekly newspapers in current membership of the Newspaper Society, is designed to recognise the most outstanding journalism and best advertising within the regional weekly newspaper industry.
There are 20 categories in the editorial section of the competition and because some entrants may be vying for more than one category, the Newspaper Society is not revealing which newspapers are up for which award.
Among those nominated is the Aberdeen Independent, which won the best free weekly newspaper in Scotland prize last year; the Chester Chronicle which won the best paid-for weekly newspaper in the North title last year and the Impartial Reporter which took the award for best paid-for weekly newspaper in Northern Ireland.
Other previous winners ,which are on the shortlist again this year, include the Milton Keynes Citizen, Tameside Advertiser and the Walsall Advertiser.
