Online papers could be in line for prizes

Several regional newspapers are set to compete against the national press in the web-based categories of the 2004 Newspaper Awards.

Following last week’s announcement of the print nominees, the shortlists for the final two categories of Best Daily Newspaper on the World Wide Web and Best Weekly Newspaper on the World Wide Web have now been revealed.

The Eastern Daily Press’ EDP24, Belfast Telegraph Digital and Scotsman.com will each compete for the daily newspaper award, along with The Sun Online, Guardian Unlimited and FT.com.

    In the weekly newspaper category, Kent Messenger Group’s Kent Online, the Watford Observer, News Shopper, Sunday Herald, Pink ‘Un and The Jewish Chronicle are all with the chance of scooping a prize.

    All the winners will be announced during a ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Wednesday, April 28.
