One World awards to recognise local media

This year’s One World Media Awards will feature a special award specifically aimed at the regional press and other local media.

Entries are being invited for the competition which recognises cultural, social and political coverage of the wider world, and a new Local Media Award will reward coverage which either reflects the similarities amongst comunities the world over, or reports on overseas issues.

Organised by the One World Broadcasting Trust, the competition has 12 categories open to staff and freelance journalists working in television, radio, print and new media.

Others include the Popular Features Award, which will reward coverage that takes Third World issues to a mass audience, and the Photojournalism Award which will recognise an outstanding photo-led story which explores contempory life in the developing world.

The closing date for entries is March 19, and winners will be announced during a ceremony hosted by Jon Snow at The Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square on June 10.
