Nominations revealed for Midlands event

The nominations for this year’s Midlands Media Awards have been announced.

The competition attracted a record number of entries, and those in the running for an award include staff from the Nottingham Evening Post, Birmingham Post & Mail, Coventry Evening Telegraph, The Sunday Mercury, The Sentinel in Stoke, the Wolverhampton Express & Star and the Leicester Mercury.

Individual awards will be handed out for News Reporter of the Year (daily and weekly); News Photographer of the Year; Sports Photographer of the Year; Sports Journalist of the Year; Business Journalist of the Year; Newcomer of the Year; Scoop of the Year; Headline of the Year and Magazine of the Year.

The Trevor Roberts Award – in memory of the former Post and Mail picture editor – will also be handed out to the region’s most promising photographer, and the Richard Williamson Award – in memory of the former Sunday Mercury chief feature writer – will go the feature writer of the year.

The region’s daily and weekly newspapers will also fight it out for the prestigious title of Newspaper of the Year, which has been won by The Sentinel for the past two years.

Winners will be revealed during a ceremony at University of Birmingham’s Great Hall on April 21.

The competition is organised by the Birmingham Press Club.
