"Nice chap" triumphs at awards

North London Guardian Newspapers has held the company’s annual awards ceremony, with a “thoroughly nice chap” winning the Commitment Award.

MD Richard Byham dished out the gongs in the company’s Walthamstow HQ.

David Jackman, editor of the West Essex Guardian and the Citizen Series, wonthe Staff Council-sponsored Commitment Award.

The judges’ reasons for his nomination included: “…he has editorship of seven editions every week, staying late and coming in early every day to get them finished, still finding time to be a thoroughly nice chap.”

The Customer Care Award went to studio artist Nik Clauson because “he isalways prepared to help, even when busy and never complains whilst alwaysadvising on design in a professional manner.”

The Achievement Award went to former telesales manager June Cory, who has now moved to the Hendon Times group.

She was nominated because “we know exactly where we are with June and we all work as a team not as separate departments.”
