Newsroom celebrates as Guardian sweeps the board

Journalists at the Warrington Guardian are celebrating after scooping more than half of the prizes up for grabs at a regional newspaper awards ceremony.

The Cheshire weekly’s reporters, sub-editors, sports team and photographers scooped top prizes in eight of the 15 categories at the Newsquest Cheshire/Merseyside annual awards, while finishing runners-up in others.

Warrington Guardian editor Jan Lever described the paper’s success as a real team effort.

She said: “The awards are not just for the individual winners. They are an acknowledgement of all the hard work and effort put in by everyone who works here to produce high-quality papers, which our readers continue to enjoy.

“And increased sales figures show that the Warrington Guardian is more popular than ever.”
