The 2004 Picture Editors’ Awards will see the introduction of a new category to recognise photographers working in editorial fashion.

The annual competition will again be calling for entries from January 1, and these must be submitted online through the official website www.pictureawards.net.

The event will recognise the best photographic journalism of the year from across the UK and Ireland, and in addition to the now well-established categories at the event, a prize for the Fujifilm Fashion Photographer of the Year will also be awarded.

And although entries can only be made online, judges will return to the print-based adjudication process and each image will be printed using Fujifilm’s Frontier technology before being reviewed by a jury of 40 national and regional picture editors.

After the initial nominations have been made, the chosen pictures will be posted to the award’s website and all UK and Irish picture editors will then get the chance to vote on who the winners should be.

The winners are due to be announced on Tuesday, May 18, at a ceremony in the Great Hall of Guildhall.
