New journalism talent is rewarded

The best new journalism talent has been celebrated at the Guardian Student Media Awards.

This year’s event attracted a record number of entries, and saw the University of York’s York Vision crowned Student Newspaper of the Year for the second year running.

Two of its students also had a successful night, with Robert Harris picking up the award for Student Reporter of the Year and fellow University of York student Jon Bentham winning Student Travel Writer of the Year.

Robert was also named the overall Student Journalist of the Year, winning a six week work placement at the Guardian.

The awards were handed out by Radio 1 presenters Edith Bowman and Colin Murray, during a ceremony in London, which followed the Guardian Student Media Conference.

Other winners included Student BMJ, which was named Student Magazine of the Year, Thomas Whipple from the University of Cambridge who was named Student Feature Writer of the Year, Ryan Li from the University of Oxford who was named Student Photographer of the Year and Cardiff University’s Blunt, which was crowned Student Website of the Year.
