Medical writing secures award

The medical correspondent of the Irish Times, Dr Muiris Houston, has been named Irish medical journalist of the year.

He was honoured at the GSK Irish Medical Media Awards, which were presented at Dublin Castle.

The judging panel said his work was “of the highest international calibre tackling complex health issues with in-depth research and invariably illuminated by accessible jargon-free language”.

He received a trophy and a cheque for €5,000.

  • The young Irish medical journalist of the year was Cormac Bourke, of Ireland on Sunday.
