Local media invited to enter One World awards

Journalists are being invited to enter a prestigious competition which recognises those covering issues affecting the developing world.

Organised by the One World Broadcasting Trust, entries for the One World Media Awards should be concerned with social, political or cultural aspects of Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East or the former Soviet Union.

Last year the Eastern Daily Press won the Local Media Award at the event, for its successful Abandoned Children Appeal which raised more than £100,000 for abandoned orphans in Romania.

And this year organisers will be looking for similarly worthy entries from television, radio, print and new media.

As well as once again presenting a Local Media Award, other categories include a Press Award, New Media Award, Popular Features Award, Photojournalism Award, Women’s Achievement Award and a Children’s Rights Award.

Judges will be looking for news coverage that has engaged its audience through innovation and flair, demonstrates investigative and journalist talent and, where possible, includes the voices and views of those living in the developing world.

The closing date for entries is March 21. Winners will be announced during a ceremony hosted by Jon Snow at The Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, on June 9.
