Journalism training centre launches its own awards scheme

Award-winning journalist Jon Snow is to be guest of honour at a London journalism training centre’s first-ever awards night.

With hundreds of former students now working in the industry, the management at noSWeat journalism training in Clerkenwell is ready to reward high-flyers and recognise their achievements.

Course director Stephen Ward said: “It is important to recognise the achievements of our past students. This acts as a spur to the present crop who are always keen to follow in the footsteps of success.”

Among those selected to receive the prizes are those working in the national and provincial press, broadcasting and magazines.

Prize winners would have climbed the ladder from their first jobs as trainees or assistants and would now be well on the way to the higher ranks of the profession.

Jon Snow, who is the Channel 4 News anchor, is also a winner – he scooped the prestigious Richard Dimbleby award at the Television BAFTAs last month for his outstanding contribution to the world of news and current affairs.

He said: “I’ve done 15 years on ITN/ITV and 15 years on ITN/Channel 4 News and the teams on both were and remain simply the best. It was them not me.”

Friday, July 29 has been set aside for the noSWeat awards event. The venue will be its new premises in Clerkenwell Close, EC1.
