Herald competition offers work experience and cash

The Herald in Glasgow is giving journalism hopefuls a chance to go and work at the newspaper.

It has launched the Scottish Student Press Awards, and the top prize is a paid four-week placement this summer.

There is also up to £500 up for grabs in each of the seven categories.

A panel of judges chaired by Mark Douglas-Home, editor of The Herald, is looking for the best news writer, features writer, sports writer, newspaper/magazine design, college publication and newspaper.

They will also choose a Student Journalist of the Year, who will scoop the work experience prize.

The competition is run in association with the Scottish Qualifications Authority, and is open to all students studying at Scottish higher or further education establishments.

Winners will be announced at a celebratory awards evening on May 23 at Langs Hotel in Glasgow.

For an entry form visit www.theherald.co.uk or call 0141 302 7407. The closing date is April 1.
